The modern world runs on credit. It is too late for us to judge whether it is good or bad. We need to accept the fact that credit cards are here to stay. Now, people have different needs as they have different life styles and different view towards life. So people tend to have different spending criteria or habits. It differs hugely with differing professions. So there are special cards for different people specially for students. These cards are designed specially for students.

Credit cards mostly work the same way and are sued for almost same purposes. But when it comes to student credit cards, there is a major difference with the regular cards and the differences are in the most important aspect of credit cards i.e. credit limit and APR.

Normally the credit limit for a student card is lower than the usual limit. It normally ranges from $500-$1000. If you are a student then you might probably have a complain about the discrimination of allowance. But you have to understand that 70% of the students have never used credit card before, so you do not have a credit score and neither, you have any idea or experience. This might lead you to misuse the card if you have good credit limit. And if you do not trust me ask your dad, you do not want to be summoned by your credit card company. And without a credit rating, no credit card company would risk giving you a card with high credit limit.

The APR is higher than usual for a student credit card than the regular ones. And the reasons are the same mentioned above. The card companies are here for business and they just cannot allow a person with no experience to have low APR on their credit card. Students also need to have the authorization from their parents in order to get a credit card issued. The terms and conditions are also likely to be strict when it cost to student credit card. But this is all for your own good. All these will regent you from falling in any trouble concerning credit card and you will be able to grow positive habits that would make you a smart credit card user in the near future when you will hopefully have good credit limits.

Starting from your college life a new thought may have crossed in your mind to apply for a student credit card. But if you are new to the credit world, you may not have sufficient of a credit history, this makes it difficult for you to obtain credit cards, in the place of usual credit card you might consider a prepaid student credit card which is the best option for you as a student, moreover, it provides flexibility of a credit card and avoids accumulating debts at the same time.

What it is

Like a student credit card, prepaid cards function in the same manner. A student prepaid credit card works in much the same way as pay as you go your mobile phone; you have to fill it before you use. No credit checks or monthly installments are required to obtain such type of credit card. The amount transferred to your student prepaid credit card depends on the spending limit. Prepaid student credit cards are not in fact credit at all. The card holder deposits money in a pre-determined account of a bank that is connected to his credit card. This is similar to how a debit card is connected to a bank account.

Uses of student prepaid credit card

The cardholder receives an actual plastic card from a bank that is connected to an account. The card can be used to buy goods and services. You can use this credit card wherever normal credit cards are accepted. Prepaid cards feature a common card brand name on them and for all purpose look and act like an actually credit card. If credit balance on the card is low or come to end, students can refill them at any time. Way to fill up these cards is through cash or check. Some card issuers also accept automatic account loading on a monthly basis.

Some facts should look out in your card

You can apply online to any issuers. Since the money is paid up-front, there are no credit checks or income requirements. But, there are some features those you should need in your student prepaid credit card. Always look for that major logo from Visa and MasterCard on your card. If it doesn’t have a major logo on it, you may find that many merchants won’t allow the card. A lot of these type cards will have a monthly fee but the good ones won’t. Student prepaid card are not like gift a card. There are many issuers, which student prepaid credit cards will help you with your credit building. So try to find that type of card and apply for that.

Advantages

You won’t be charged interest.

No late payment fees.

You don’t have the risk of getting into debt.

Well option for those with bad credit ratings.

Disadvantages

There is a monthly convenience fee.

You will have to pay a fixed charge to join the scheme.

You may have to pay a transaction fee.

Main problem is that, you do not get a credit.

So, a student prepaid credit card is very useful if you are not particularly good at managing your money, as you can only use as much as you have put on the card and cannot become in debt or go over the limit. Others, all parents find it a very useful tool for allocating a pre-set allowance to their children.

As a student you have no excuse for large expenses. But as a student you may need cash for travel or entertainment. This is why a student applies for a credit card, which will be sufficient for his emergency purpose. Parents then make sure that their youth are well-provided financially, even at the onset of their high-school years. Students cannot be held exclusively accountable for limited knowledge as most parents think that they know about commitments involved with buy of credit cards.

With the need of student, many credit card companies have their own profits to think about and student is left to work out economics of credit card payments. Credit card companies target the students, which are part of the fast rising section population that are prepared to expend money. Most of these companies have great offer, which gives affordable rates. But it is generally higher than normal credit cards. A number of cards and services offered quality settling for single credit card or card with parental co-signature they tend to exhibit as many as they need.

It is more significant than start to build an excellent credit history when you are young. A credit card is only a tool in building life simpler and not a substitute for resources. A student credit point is based on payment history, outstanding debts and types of credit in use. Different companies have their own standards for credit points. Sooner than a negative statement leads to loss of creditability, it is best to gain copy of credit points for review. Most important is that stop making new buys and clear debts with the help of parent or through student debt secure plans.

As a student you can access special offers from banks which have special features for students, as well as student credit cards for over 18’s. So, as a parent, you should be alert if your teens apply for a student credit card. You should ensure that your son/daughter will go to a good company. As a parent you should be wise with your choices, from when your son or daughter may get tempted to use the card anytime they desire to. It will be best to give them a well rule sated card such as the cards must only be used for emergencies. Just the once this rule is broken, high premiums for daily purchases will be the fine. This is not only a rule by this way your teens will be learning lessons as they will be able to build up self-control and excellent financial managing power.
